“I’m just a small farmer, finding joy only in my children. My 5-year-old and 3-year-old sons mean everything to me.

His condition now is so critical that he isn’t able to recognise us!” said Keshavulu, sitting beside his son Abhayram who has been in the hospital for over a month now, waiting for a liver transplant.

The liver transplant isn’t the issue, but the USD 28,571.00 needed to make it possible are.

“Life took a turn for the worse since February,” added Survarna, Abhayram’s mother.

It all began when Abhayram developed a persistent high fever. The doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and prescribed medications. However, the illness returned after seeming to improve.

During the second episode, doctors discovered an underlying liver condition. “He appeared to be getting better initially, but when he started struggling to breathe, we rushed him to the hospital again,” Survarna recounted tearfully.

She continued, “That’s when we learned he is experiencing acute liver failure. The only hope for him now is a liver transplant.”

Initially, the parents were scared and confused. Being illiterate, they didn’t fully grasp the severity of the situation, but they understood one thing clearly – their child’s life was in danger.

“The doctors patiently explained everything to us, but the more they spoke, the more overwhelmed we felt,” Suvarna recounted. “My husband started crying and pleaded with them to save Abhayram.

I was stunned and confused – my 3-year-old, organ failure, transplant, life at risk. And then, we learned the cost of the transplant – USD 28,571.00.”

The parents have already spent around ₹3 lakhs on Abhayram’s pneumonia treatment by borrowing money, but now, the amount needed is far beyond their means.
