Help farmer’s daughter who has a collapsed lung & spinal disorder survive

9-year-old Neelamma’s family found out her life was in danger in March of 2024.

What was supposed to be a routine surgery to treat a spinal defect ended with her needing a ventilator to stay alive.

Critically ill, she has a collapsed lung and problems in the brain cavity. She’s currently admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), in need of treatment that will cost USD 12,987.00.

Her parents are farmers, earning barely Rs 7,500 a month. Without your support, they will never be able to save her.

9 years ago, in 2015, Saraswathi and Manjunath, welcomed a baby girl into their lives. They had spent nine long months waiting excitedly for this day. When the day finally came, they could not believe their luck – it was a girl! They named her Neelamma.

“Our whole family agreed that this was a real blessing. We were unbelievably happy and couldn’t wait to raise this beautiful girl.

But not too long after she was born, we started noticing that something strange was happening with her back,” says Saraswathi.

“The doctors told us that surgery would fix this problem in her spine. I wanted my daughter to be happy and healthy, so I decided to do whatever was needed to afford this surgery.”

Neelamma was taken to the surgery room after which it was found that she had additional problems – a collapsed lung and intracranial hypotension.

The fix was not so straightforward anymore. Doctors had to rush to stabilize her and had to put her on a ventilator. Right now, she can’t breathe on her own.

All that her parents want is for her to be healthy again. But the only way for Neelamma to have a real life is for her to stay in the PICU, while she fights for her life. Unfortunately, this treatment will cost USD 12,987.00.
