A massive tumor in her mouth. A painfully swollen face. Every time I look at my 4-year-old daughter, Radhika, in this state, my heart breaks.
“Doctor, please do whatever it takes to save my daughter. She is my whole world, I can’t lose her,” I begged through tears.
The tubes you see are attached to her face because she can’t eat or drink through her mouth. The reason for this swelling in medical terms is a ‘malignant round cell tumour.’ The cost of my daughter’s life is an impossible USD 25,974.00
How we ended up here
A few months ago, I noticed a small swelling in my daughter’s mouth. The doctor at the clinic took one look at her and looked very concerned. This was the first clue that something was wrong.
He refused to tell me anything, saying he needed to run tests first. We did everything we were asked to do.
The next day, he called us with a diagnosis. At first, I refused to believe what I was hearing. How could it be a tumour?
“I’m sorry Maneesha ji, but the tumor in your daughter’s mouth will keep growing unless we do something. The good news is the tests we’ve run tell us that she is a good candidate for surgery. If we do it soon, her chances are good,” the doctor explained, as he showed us the test results.
The news shocked us. But I told the doctors to do whatever they needed to do to save my child. All I wanted was for her to be healthy enough so we could take her home.
But then I had a terrifying thought. How much would this life-saving surgery cost? Would I be able to afford it? I asked the doctor these questions.
“The surgery will cost USD 25,974.00. I know this is a huge amount but life-saving surgeries are expensive. I hope you can find a way to afford this.”
It was a huge blow to me and my husband and at that moment, I simply couldn’t hold back my tears.
My husband who works as a manual labourer earns just enough to make ends meet. We had to beg our family to lend us money for her hospital admission and initial treatment. But there’s nothing left now.
Radhika is still living with the tumour, still in pain, still praying to be free of it. We don’t have any money for the remainder of her treatment. Please, if you can help, make a contribution.
We’re praying that our daughter will receive treatment as soon as possible. Every bit you give us will be used only for her treatment. Without this surgery, my baby will live a painful life until she passes away before her time.
Give her a chance at life.
